The SEC’s Passing Leaders Through Week 5
No. 6 Diego Pavia: 94/126, 1211 Yards, 13 TDs/3 INTs
At Number 6 there is Diego Pavia from Vanderbilt. Pavia, right now, is averaging 242.2 passing yards per game with a total of 1,211 yards thus far in the season. I certainly expected Pavia to be here (on this list) after what he did last year at Vanderbilt. Pavia is a great quarterback and a great leader, especially given the fact that he is now in his 6th year of college football
No. 5 Marcel Reed: 73/121, 1076 Yards, 9 TDs/2 INTs
Coming in at number 5 is Marcel Reed from Texas A&M. Marcel Reed is currently averaging 269 yards per game and a total of 1076 yards so far. Marcel Reed through these first 4 games has been electric with his arm and his legs. His threat on the ground opens up a lot more opportunities to throw and he has certainly capitalized on that. I’m very excited to see how he leads the Aggies through the rest of the year.
No. 4 Taylen Green: 98/158, 1398 Yards, 12 TDs/5 INTs
Number 4 is Taylen Green out of Arkansas. Green is currently averaging 279.6 yards per game right now and has 1,398 yards total. Green is a guy who is similar to Reed in the fact that he is a very good dual threat. The only difference is that Green is doing way more, with way less. This speaks to Green’s leadership and experience given the fact that he is now a senior. I expect Taylen Green to give Arkansas one of their better seasons from the quarterback position recently.
No. 3 Ty Simpson: 88/127, 1138 Yards, 11 TDs/0 INTs
Number 3 is Ty Simpson from Alabama. While Ty Simpson is currently averaging 284.5 a game and a total of 1,138 yards, fans and experts were skeptical of his lack of experience, especially after watching the loss to FSU. But I think it is safe to say that Ty has redeemed himself and has proven to the people that he is capable and proved it the past week with a great performance and win over No. 5 Georgia.
No. 2 Joey Aguilar: 102/157, 1459 Yards, 6 TDs/3 INTs
Last but not least is Joey Aguilar. Joey is averaging 291.8 per game and a total of 1,459 yards so far in the season. Joey Aguilar in just these first 4 games has already exceeded expectations and has looked phenomenal thus far. The combination of Joey Aguilar and Chris Brazzel II is borderline unstoppable. Joey is also another 6th year guy with loads of experience and is now surrounded by a good team that can elevate his game and provide a lot of success for the Volunteers this season.
Disclaimer: John Mateer is currently leading in passing right now, but will miss a few weeks due to a broken thumb that happened during the Auburn game.
