Week 18 SEC Scoring Leaders
No. 5 Tyler Tanner (Vanderbilt): 19 pts | 3.5 reb | 5.3 ast | 48.8 FG%
Tyler Tanner had a very exciting week, putting up 34 points in 44 minutes while also recording seven assists. With the regular season coming to a close, Tanner seems to be going out on a high note. I really like what Vanderbilt is doing this season, and I think they can definitely make a run in March Madness, especially with the likes of Tyler Tanner leading the way.
No. 4 Keyshawn Hall (Auburn): 20.6 pts | 6.9 reb | 2.8 ast | 45.2 FG%
While Keyshawn Hall still had an impressive week, the Auburn Tigers just aren’t winning enough games. The biggest thing that stands out to me with Keyshawn isn’t that he’s a “ball hog,” but rather that he feels like everything is on his shoulders. And I can see why. When you look at who Auburn lost last year, it’s a lot of production. Hall is an experienced player who was expected to bring leadership and production. While he is certainly bringing the production, the leadership aspect doesn’t quite seem to be there yet.
No. 3 Josh Hubbard (Mississippi State): 21.4 pts | 2.5 reb | 3.6 ast | 41.8 FG%
Hubbard has been through the ringer these last few games. Going to Florida and Alabama in a two-week span is not ideal. I hate it for Hubbard because I truly think he’s an elite guard who would dominate in the postseason. That being said, the team around him just isn’t all that strong. For a guy whose team is losing by double digits week in and week out, he is still performing at a very high level.
No. 2 Labaron Philon (Alabama): 21.5 pts | 3.3 reb | 4.8 ast | 50.7 FG%
Labaron Philon and the Crimson Tide have shown no signs of slowing down—that is, until they were beaten by Georgia in their most recent game. While it was a tough loss, they were due for one. Alabama had been on a hot streak, so this could actually serve as a good reset. Philon still performed very well in the game, and I expect Alabama to have a phenomenal postseason, with Philon continuing to lead the way.
No. 1 Darius Acuff (Arkansas): 22.2 pts | 3 reb | 6.4 ast | 49.3 FG%
Coming into this season, Acuff was a highly regarded recruit, but I don’t think anyone expected him to be as dominant as he has been. Acuff is averaging 27.2 points per game over the last five games, one of which included a 49-point performance. Not to mention, he still leads the SEC in assists. He’s shaping up to be a feared player in the postseason and could give the Razorbacks a serious run in March.
