Auburn’s Summer Surge: Tigers Vault Into Top 10 Recruiting Class

In late April, the Auburn Tigers were ranked 88th nationally in recruiting with only one commitment in their 2027 class. Recruiting is a major part of college football and one of the most important responsibilities of any head coach. Because of Auburn’s slow start, Alex Golesh’s recruiting efforts began drawing scrutiny and raising concerns among Tigers fans.

Since late April, however, Golesh has landed 17 more commitments in just two months, vaulting Auburn to fourth in the SEC and 10th nationally in the recruiting rankings. It’s been one of the most impressive recruiting surges in the country, so let’s take a look at some of the Tigers’ biggest recent additions.

Myson Johnson-Cook — RB | 6-foot-2, 220 pounds | St. Louis, Missouri

Johnson-Cook rushed for more than 1,300 yards during his senior season while averaging an impressive 10.6 yards per carry. He also attended three different high schools and produced at a high level at each stop. Auburn has a long history of developing elite running backs, and Johnson-Cook has the potential to become the next standout ball carrier for the Tigers.

Chance Gilbert — CB | 6-foot, 175 pounds | Sharpsburg, Georgia

Gilbert may be my favorite of Auburn’s recent commitments because of the Tigers’ need in the secondary. Auburn lost significant defensive back talent through the transfer portal this offseason, making Gilbert’s commitment an important addition for the future. His athleticism and upside should help strengthen a position group that needs reinforcements.

Isaac McNeil — LB | 6-foot-2, 215 pounds | Mobile, Alabama

Another exciting defensive addition is linebacker Isaac McNeil from Mobile. The modern linebacker continues to evolve into a faster, more athletic player capable of covering space and making plays all over the field. McNeil fits that mold perfectly and could become an exciting player to watch in Auburn’s defense.

Other notable Auburn commitments:

  • Donivan Moore — DL | 6-foot-4, 280 pounds | Bessemer, Alabama
  • Layton Von Brandt — OT | 6-foot-6, 285 pounds | Middletown, Delaware
  • Nate Kamba — DL | 6-foot-4, 290 pounds | Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Kington Miles — RB | 6-foot, 205 pounds | St. Louis, Missouri
  • George Lamons — TE | 6-foot-4, 210 pounds | Quitman, Georgia

Auburn’s recruiting class has gone from an area of concern to one of the biggest success stories of the summer. If Golesh and his staff can continue this momentum, the Tigers could finish with one of the SEC’s strongest classes and provide a major boost for the program’s future.
