We no longer have a “Firing Season” in College Football. It can happen in September, heck, Auburn tried to do it right before the Dogwood Blooms. Back in the Old Days, the early 2000s, November was “Separation Season”. That is when coaches like Neal Brown, Jimbo Fisher, and others started to check caller IDs and avoiding be in a room with Athletic Directors. Money changes everything and it may be the great protector. Jimbo Fisher’s TexAgs program has slipped to the point you get tweets like the one above from National Columnist. His program is now the talking point with my coffee guy in Birmingham, Alabama. The buyout should let Jimbo keep going. If $85M protects Jimbo in Oil country, what does a $20M buyout do for Neal Brown at West Virginia? Probably the same thing. Crazy changes will come with some crazy money in November. – Jim Dunaway
