Is Jalen Brunson the Greatest Knick Ever?
With the New York Knicks winning the NBA Finals for the first time since 1973, it raises the question: Is Jalen Brunson the greatest Knick of all time? It’s certainly a difficult debate, but the numbers make a compelling case.
Brunson signed with the Knicks in 2022, a move that many Knicks fans were skeptical about at the time. While he was viewed as a solid guard, few expected him to become the face of the franchise. Since arriving in New York, however, Brunson has exceeded expectations and proven doubters wrong. His playoff performances have been nothing short of remarkable, and they clearly demonstrate the pivotal role he played in leading the Knicks to a championship.
Other contenders for the title of greatest Knick ever include Patrick Ewing, Carmelo Anthony, and Walt Frazier. Many fans would argue that Ewing and Anthony were more talented individual players than Frazier. However, Frazier helped deliver the Knicks’ last two NBA championships, a significant factor in any discussion about franchise greatness.
With that in mind, can the same argument be made for Brunson? After all, he helped bring the Knicks their first championship since 1973. Based solely on his playoff performances and leadership during this title run, I believe Brunson has earned consideration as the greatest Knick ever. His 45-point performance in the final game of the series only strengthens that case.
In my opinion, Jalen Brunson may not be the flashiest player in Knicks history, but he has consistently demonstrated heart, toughness, and leadership. He has cemented his place as an NBA champion and, in my view, the greatest Knick of all time.
Congratulations to Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks on an unforgettable championship season.
