Connor O’Gara is joined by Jim Dunaway for a loaded edition of The Connor O’Gara Show, breaking down the biggest college football stories heading into a huge SEC weekend.
The spotlight starts in Starkville, where No. 7 Alabama visits No. 16 Mississippi State in a battle of unbeaten SEC teams. The matchup features two of college football’s most exciting 19-year-old quarterbacks: Alabama’s Keelon Russell and Mississippi State’s Kamario Taylor. Connor and Jim break down Taylor’s poise, Russell’s rapid rise, the challenge of playing at Davis Wade Stadium and why Bulldogs running back Fluff Bothwell could be a major factor in Mississippi State’s upset hopes.
Then it’s time for a full Heisman Trophy debate. Where do Kamario Taylor, Keelon Russell, Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss, Florida RB Jadan Baugh, Miami QB Darian Mensah and Ohio State superstar Jeremiah Smith belong in the early race? The guys also discuss Arch Manning, Gunner Stockton and Missouri QB Austin Simmons as the SEC’s Heisman picture continues to evolve.
The conversation shifts to some of the SEC’s biggest early-season disappointments. What has gone wrong for Oklahoma QB John Mateer, Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed and Auburn QB Byrum Brown? How much pressure is building around South Carolina and Shane Beamer as LaNorris Sellers struggles? And why hasn’t Texas gotten more production from talented transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman?
Connor and Jim also discuss the people they respect most in college football media, including Rece Davis, Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit, before reacting to Northwestern’s new 35,000-seat Ryan Field and debating whether SEC stadiums would actually benefit from becoming smaller, louder and more intimate.
The show closes on a personal note as Connor reflects on the loss of his family’s 14-year-old cat, Rudy, and Jim shares memories of his family dog, Baxter, along with perspective on helping families and pets through loss.
