The SEC’s Passing Leaders Through Week 9

No. 5 Marcell Reed: 1972 YDS  17 TD  6 INT  246.5 YPG

Marcell Reed is among the SEC leading passers this season with impressive stats.

Marcell Reed had another great offensive performance this week. Once again, he led the Aggies to stay undefeated, showcasing why he’s one of the SEC Leading Passers. This past week Texas A&M faced LSU in Death Valley at night. This fact adds on to how impressive this win was. I think people keep doubting this team. Every week they prove them wrong. I have been very impressed with this team. I am super excited to see how they finish out this season with Marcell Reed at the helm.

No. 4 John Mateer: 1790 YDS  8 TD  6 INT  255.7 YP

John Matter looked like the real deal at the start of this season. However, he has certainly digressed ever since his hand injury. This has affected his position among the SEC Leading Passers. I still think Oklahoma can be a very good football team. However, the Sooners offense and John Mateer have got to find something that works. Hopefully this team can figure it out and finish the season off right.

No. 3 Taylen Green: 2178 YDS  17 TD  8 INT 272.3 YPG

I have been super high on Taylen Green this season. I think he has been a really great quarterback for Arkansas. That being said, he did not have a great game against the Auburn Tigers. He showed signs of not being able to finish a game. We also saw this against Memphis earlier in the season. On the last four drives vs. Auburn Taylen Green threw 2 interceptions. Moreover, one of them was returned for a touchdown. Hopefully he can find a way to start winning the close games. This way, he can solidify his place among the SEC Leading Passers.

No. 2 Ty Simpson: 2184 YDS  20 TD  1 INT  273 YPG

Once again, Ty Simpson has another great week and another conference win on the road. So far this offense has looked unbeatable with Ty Simpson. Even though he is number 2 on this list, he ranks number 1 in my book and is clearly one of the SEC Leading Passers. His touchdown to interception ratio blows everybody out of the water. I think it is time we start considering Ty Simpson as the Heisman favorite.

No. 1 Joey Aguilar: 2344 YDS  18 TD  6 INT  293 YPG

When I think of a gunslinger, I think of Joey Aguilar. The reason being is that he loves to throw the deep ball. Against lower ranking opponents, it works like a charm. However, his weaknesses get exposed when he faces teams like Alabama and Georgia, who have really good secondaries. It isn’t a coincidence that those are Tennessee’s two losses. I think Josh Heupel needs to focus more on true game-planning. He should try to get Joey Aguilar to read the defense more, rather than throwing the ball 50 yards down the field and hoping for the best.
